Where can we have photos?

For newlywed photos at Bellever Forest, you can create a lovely sequence of locations that feel natural as you walk in and out of the forest around the East Dart. These spots work especially well for a relaxed, romantic Dartmoor style shoot:

The stone bridge over the East Dart River
The Victorian bridge beside the old clapper bridge is one of the best framing spots. A couple standing together looking over the river gives a classic Dartmoor image with woodland and water behind you. It works beautifully both arriving and leaving the forest because the river catches the light differently through the day. The remains of the medieval clapper bridge beside it add character and texture to wide shots.

The giant carved wooden seat (“throne” bench)
Near the forest walks there is a huge timber bench/seat carved from tree trunks that can hold a large group — easily 30 people squeezed together for a fun bridal party or family photograph. It makes a quirky contrast to the elegant wedding portraits and works brilliantly for laughing candid shots.

Flat stepping stone over the trickling stream

There are several shallow stream crossings and flat granite stones near the river paths where the water gently runs around the rock. A couple standing together on one of these stones creates a very intimate Dartmoor scene — especially if photographed low to include the flowing water in the foreground.

If you are happy with a short walk uphill, the tor gives wide Dartmoor panoramas and sunset light. It contrasts nicely with the enclosed forest photographs.

A particularly nice flow for a wedding shoot is:

• forest entrance to the woodland river path

• quirky giant bench

• stream stone crossing

• the tor

• then finishing on the clapper bridge over the East Dart at golden hour.
